Otoscopy

That hand held light we use to look in your ears.. what are we looking for, and what is it called?

This hand held instrument is known as an Otoscope. It is used in most medical examinations to exam the "external auditory canal". Basically we want to have a look into the ear canal so we can check for wax buildup, scarring on the ear drum, holes in the ear drum, ear infections, inflammation, redness or foreign bodies (to name some).

This is one "test" that we will perform at every single one of your appointments, because it is always important for us to make sure your ear canal is nice and clean and not irritated.

Fun Fact:

Ever wonder why your audiologist, doctor or nurse pull on your ear in order to have a look on there? We do it, because it straightens out the ear canal so we can see better!
